The Chocolate Chip Girl Writing Standard - 4.W.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
Prompt: Pick a favorite fairytale and make it your own. After you’ve chosen your fairytale, you must change either the setting (time or place), one or more of the characters, the time period in which it takes place, or a combination of at most two of these. If you need extra practice you may visit http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/fairytales/. Be sure to write a well-organized, sequenced, descriptive story using lots of creativity!
Reflection: Using the VoiceThread website was easy and fun!! I really enjoyed going through the process of creating my video and adding different “identities.” The website was user friendly and provided for many ways to make my project unique to me. I love that you can use VoiceThread not only to make your own projects and present them but that you can also comment on others’ videos, as well. This would be such a great collaborative tool in my classroom. I can see myself using VoiceThread possibly as part of a Social Studies unit, especially one integrating a writing assignment. It would be an asset for students who are uncomfortable and get anxious about presenting live in front of a group. VoiceThread allows students to essentially do the exact same thing but outside of the classroom, in their homes, where they will be more comfortable to relax, enjoy and learn without realizing it! I can also see it being a helpful resource possibly for a student who may have special needs. Anyone can use it, everyone will enjoy it, and the collaboration will start flowing. The only potential downside I can see is a low-income student who may not have easy access to a computer but, of course, arrangements can always be made to help those students out.
